One of the great rewards of our work is applying and extending the visual branding elements we’ve helped create. Signage applications particularly stand out because of their physical, architectural and relatively permanent character. Above all signs need to work within a specific environment and context and add value to the sense of place. The institutional signage we designed as part of NJIT’s brand roll out is a case in point. Signage applications work against the backdrop of the university’s oldest facility, a 19th century Elizabethan Gothic historic hall that is in the city’s historic district. Others show the university’s visual identity against the skyline, incorporated into the university’s carillon, applied to signs identifying the university’s tech incubators. And this is just the beginning.
